Sql Server Versions

There are all versions of MS SQL, which are free and able to handle a live web server / production environment?

We have a non-profit. We shared hosting now and considering moving to a new server installation. We do not want to use MySQL. There is a non-profit version of SQL available? Or SQL Express can manage the use in a production environment?
