Sql Server Jobs – my 8 Tips
| 1) Question On Career In Sql Server Jobs? |
| hi does any one know how good is the prospect for sql server jobs …..also, is this a stable database …….am thinking of steering my career toward sql server please suggest.. i was told that since sql server is really cheap to buy compared to oracle and db2,job market will be good is that true |
| I don’t think I have ever seen advertisements for sql server jobs, at my work we use sql and oracle databases. |
| 2) Is There An Oracle Equivalent Of SQL Server Agent Jobs? |
| I need to schedule a recurring event that executes a file, but I don’t want to do it usinng Window Scheduler. I can’t seem to find a tool in Oracle that’ll do that. do you know of one? |
| go to your Oracle Enterprise manager (try http://localhost:1521/em ) which has a scheduler options |
| 3) How We Have To Show SQL Server 2000 Job Status In A Web Page? |
| Dynamically showing SQL server 2000 job status as started, failed, succeeded based on the job. |
| ASP, timer loop, run query on SQLServer, parse repsponse and write out a refreshed page.
There are fancier specific ways but this works with just about any SQL database and with a billion other types of server as well. I used to go out and hit CICS, Sybase, NT servers, Netware, SQL server, oracle and MySQL then present a conglomerate report of where things were. After you write the first one, you are made for the next 10 years. Have fun. |
| 4) What Are The Duties & Tasks Of A SQL Server Administrator? |
| An SQL Server Administrator needs to know programming or not?
Beside writing T-SQL queries does a SQL Server 2005 Administrator needs to know programming? I was wondering if a SQL Server 2005 Administrator or Developer needs to have a deep knowledge in C# or other NET languages?? I mea n is it required? I was under the impression that SQL & T-SQL programming and SQL Administratives tasks were the only requirement to apply for a sql server job?? Thanks. |
| you can find plenty of help here

| 5) I Accidentally Deleted A Job On My SQL Server, How Can I Get It Back? |
| I accidentally pushed the delete button on one of my jobs in SQL server, is there a way I can restore the job? |
| 6) SQL Server 2005 – Scheduled Jobs Possible? |
| I have SQL Server 2000 schedule jobs and would like to import them into SQL Server 2005. How do i do this? I’m even open to starting from scratch its just i cant seem to find a way to create a new one. |
| Open the old job, then save it to the new server |
| 7) What Is A Sql Server Job ? |
| Need to know about the details of sql server jobs i.e. how to create it ,how to run it,how to re-run it from the step where it failed, etc. |
| Did you mean DB administrator job? Install server program, create database(s), server program runs as a service all the time, there are DB admin tools that allow you to restart/backup/repair (…) your DB server… |

| Yes, indeed. If you want a certification, it’s part of the requirements. TSQL queries are not enough, you might need to create stored procedures, views or triggers which are a common use of TSQL in a programmatic way. Queries are not the only way to handle data as well, sooner or later you’ll have to deal with cursors too. Even jobs might call a SP or have some code to perform some task. You can use ActiveX from TSQL and that requires to connect to an ActiveX DLL and use its methods and properties, usually this is wrapped in a SP. If you use SQL 2005 then you need also to know any .NET language to create stored procedures, views or triggers that might require more powerful calculations. If you need a lot of number crunching or low level access then you might even need to create an extended stored procedure in C++, but this mostly for extreme performance cases such as scientific, financial, etc… |
