| I often have problems with my setup. My main problem is serving http (my ftp seems to work fine). I had no problems when I was using a program called Simple Server. Now that program doesn’t work either.
I also use a program called Dynsite to redirect my dynamic ip to a DNS name. I use this url to access Remote desktop and even works fine when the firewall is setup for it. I am now trying to run the open source XAMPP server package and again no problem with FTP but no joy with HTTP The files say they are being served but they are only accessable using my LAN. When my friends try to access the pages over the internet then nothing happens Is it ntl (my isp) doing something to block the external internet? Or is it configuration of the apache web sever? Or is it some other crazy thing (i’m pretty sure its not my firewall) that i have not considered? My Setup/Software: |

Yes, you can run a web server from your house, but you need bandwidth, which gets pricey. A T1 would suffice for a few sites, but runs about $300-600 per month. | Yes you can. Yahoo has an easy install of Wordpress (Wordpress is the blog software you should use).
However, I have some experience with Yahoo Business Web Hosting. Stay away, LOL. | If you have web hosting, then i assume you use the redirect mail option and point it to your personal email address?
So say you web hosted email is joeblogss@mydomain.co.uk and someone emails this address and this message is then redirected to your personal email, then how do your reply but hide your personal email address, i.e reply as joeblogss@mydomain.co.uk. Or does the webhost have an email server so that you don’t need to redirect, what is best way? |
